Kennebunk Savings Employees Donate Over 7,400 hours of Volunteer Labor in 2009
Kennebunk, Maine – 12/18/2009

Being a part of the community is at the heart of Kennebunk Savings.  Last year at the Bank’s annual volunteer celebration, new President and CEO Brad Paige challenged the employees and volunteers to do even more during 2009 for area nonprofits.  And meet the challenge they did!  The original goal of increasing volunteer time by 1,000 hours was more than doubled, as Bank employees volunteered 7,485 hours (or 187 40-hour work weeks).  The Bank’s employees volunteered in a variety of capacities for over 150 local non-profit organizations, ranging from animal shelters to church food pantries, to area land trusts.

While volunteering in the community helps a nonprofit, it also serves to engage people in their community. According to President and CEO Brad Paige, “In November a group of employees and I volunteered to help clear handicapped trails at Waban in Sanford – and even in the pouring rain we had fun!  Working together helps to build a sense of community and camaraderie when you are moving mountains of gravel, and it also helps to create a sense of caring about others.  I’m really proud of our employees.”

For a number of years the bank has supported and encouraged the volunteer efforts of its employees by donating funds to a non-profit of the individual employee’s choice based on the amount of hours the employee volunteers. This year’s contribution for the volunteer program totaled $8,725.

Since 1994, the bank has contributed 10% of its annual earnings back to the non-profit community through the Community Investment Program, resulting in over $6 million directed to the work of York County charities and nonprofits.
